This unusual home just popped up on the market. It’s located in a great area, with more upscale homes all around. Listed as a 1/1 of 1128 sq ft built in 1987, it sits on 1.6 acres just west of Redding Ca. Now an unwanted asset of the troubled Fannie Mae organization, it can be yours for under $200K. Although how they came up with the $360.00 tagged on to the price may forever remain a mystery. Presumably, asking $199,359.99 just didn’t feel right.
Granite counters? No.
Stainless appliances? Uh-uh.
Crown molding? Nope.
Funky hippie? Oh yeah. It’s an original, alright.
Representing the Fannie Mae organization’s interests in this sale is foreclosure listing broker Diane Abair of Bears Den Realty. She writes of it:

“Hillside chalet. Perfect for bachelor or bachelorette. Two story lots of views. A great workshop on lower level or barn for her. One bedroom and 1 bath.”

Eh? “barn for her.” Well…um…okay then. We’ve no idea either. In any event, we can show you bachelors or bachelorettes, or anybody in between, or anything, or anybody outside those descriptions, any bank owned chalet, or funky cabin style house for sale around here. We rely on your calls and referrals, so thanks!

This from FHFA, the federal government oversight organization who “watches over” nationalized Fannie and Freddie: “the Enterprises own or guarantee 56% of the single family mortgages in this country, or $5.4 trillion of the total $11.9 trillion in outstanding mortgage debt; their combined share of mortgages originated in the first quarter of 2009 was 73 percent;” That debt, all $5.4 TRILLION, is off the books of the official number of the $11.9 TRILLION US Debt. Sound dangerous? Heck no. That $5.4 TRILLION is backed by mortgages. People will just keep paying on their mortgages, won’t they?
